Spider Vein Removal
Sclerotherapy is a non-surgical procedure
It is performed for the treatment of capillary or spider veins. It has been done with safety and success for decades. No anaesthetic is required. It is performed by injecting a sclerosing solution into the veins causing the vein lining to become irritated and shut down. After the vein has collapsed it becomes absorbed by the body and fades. A very fine needle is used and the success rate is close to 90%.
There is no need to take time off work after the treatment and you can return to work after walking for 30 minutes and it is advisable to wear compressing stocking afterwards.
The number of treatments required varies from person to person but usually 2 to 3 treatment sessions are necessary and further treatments will be required as new veins form.
Complications are uncommon, the most common being bruising and staining at the injection sites. Staining can last for several months on rare occasions and very rarely a small ulcer may occur which heals without difficulty leaving a cosmetically acceptable scar.
